I remember trying my hand at it when I was a boy with no help from anyone just plain trial and error in trying to figure out the lost art of tackle making.

I like to use my scroll saw for the rough in of the crankbait before I get into the carving and shaping out the details. Now using a scroll saw may take a little more finesse then a small band saw, so if you have a bandsaw then use that, I don’t so I use my trusty scroll saw. The trick is to draw on the wooden blank the lures profile both side and top profiles so that when you cut the rough shape out with either your band saw or scroll saw you have a real blocky looking crankbait.

Some like to hand carve out the rough shape into something more refined, others like to use wood rasps and the like to achieve the same thing. If I’m using cedar then I might use a combination of rasps and knife work in my tackle making process. Either way the idea is to round off the edges and start to bring the crankbait alive.

The open back fins aren’t as long as the other type so you will be doing a bit more work with your legs to get through the water at the same speed. The type of fins divers use is usually a personal preference that depends on how comfortable they are.

• Gloves The next item of spearfishing equipment you will need are a pair of gloves. Fishing gloves are basic cotton gloves with grip added to them to be able to hold slippery fish. The cotton gloves are cheap and effective. They do stretch and wear out after a few dives but they are inexpensive to replace.

Or you may prefer the dive gloves. Dive gloves are made out wetsuit material and usually have some kind of grip pattern on the fingers and palms. Permits Needed To Start A Restaurant Business

When you open a restaurant business, there are many permits and licenses you will be required to have. The type of business license you will need will be different in each city, county, and state. There are some who require each business to register yearly, and they collect a fee from each registration. There are others that do not require a business to register if the business is not incorporated, unless you will be operating under an assumed or fictitious name.

To learn what type of licenses and permits you will need for the area your business will be located in, you need to talk to your county or city clerk. You will also want to check out the zoning ordinances and sign regulations that may apply to the type and location of your business.

Before you even think about obtaining licenses and permits, you will need to apply for a Federal Employer Identification Number or EIN. You can do this by visiting the IRS website. They will ask a few questions and you will be issued an EIN. This number identifies you to the government (IRS) as a business owner. Everyone who owns a business must have an EIN.

Below are some of the licenses and permits that you may need for your restaurant business.

1. A License for Business- Depending on your restaurant business location, you may be charged a percentage of your gross sales, or a simple yearly fee to operate your business.

2. A Food Handler’s License or Permit- This is necessary for the selling of edible goods. Each state and county have their own set of rules and amount of fee charged. You will be inspected regularly by health inspectors to make sure you are running a clean restaurant business.

The type of license you apply for will depend on what sort of alcohol your restaurant will serve. Many states will require that you obtain a one license for beer, another for wine, and yet another for hard liquor. The state only allows a certain number of liquor licenses for an area. If none are available you, you will need to purchase the license from someone who already has one and is willing to sell. These can be renewed yearly, unless you have committed an illegal offense such as, selling liquor to a minor, or selling liquor you do not have a license for.

4. A Sign Permit- Before you put up any signs for your restaurant business, contact your city officials to see if there are restrictions on the type of sign, size, location, and how the sign is lit. You should also get written approval from your landlord before you put up any sort of sign.

5. A Music License- Any establishment that plays copyrighted music, will need one of these. Whether you have a band, DJ playing CDs, or Karaoke. The fines can be steep for not having a music license. They usually run from $5,000 to $20,000, so it’s a good idea to obtain this license.

6. Fire Certificates- You will undoubtedly be inspected by the fire department before you open your restaurant business. They will educate you on all regulations you will need to follow, and will do routine inspections on your business. Other permits you may need include: a Police Permit, a Sellers Permit (allows you to buy wholesale goods without paying sales tax), and a Building or Zoning Permit.

Fishing is a relaxing, rewarding way to enjoy your friends and the splendor of nature. In addition to putting a great meal on the table, it’s a great way to escape the pressure of your daily routine and the stresses of modern life.

But no matter what state you choose to go fishing in, you’ll have to get a license. Though requirements may differ from state to state, all states require you to have a fishing license. Many states offer different licenses for residents and non-residents. Each person on a fishing expedition must have his or her own fishing license.

To find out what your state requires, contact the state’s fish and wildlife agency. Agency names may vary. For example, Texas licensing is done by the Parks and Wildlife Department. California’s agency is the Department of Fish and Game. Check your phone book for the proper name and number to get information. Or search for “fishing license” on the Internet where most states make their information easily available to the public.

Don’t worry. You don’t have to take an exam or get a learner’s permit, and you don’t have to meet minimum age requirements. In fact, some states exempt children under a certain age from license requirements. Anyone can get a license to fish, and everyone must have one to begin the fishing expedition. You’ll have to provide some personal information, like your social security number or home address, and you will need a valid photo ID to get your license.

Many states allow fishing licenses to be purchased at stores near the fishing area. Bait shops, gas stations, and quick-marts may be able to provide a fishing license while you’re on the way to your spot. Some states offer licenses online. Depending on what you’re willing to pay, you may be able to get an annual or lifetime fishing license. Crabbing and Claiming in Delaware

As of 2008 all citizens of Delaware are required to have a fishing license in order to catch crabs within the state waters. The blue crab is the most common crab found within our tidal water region. Not only is this marine species an excellent recreational activity but provides a sizable economic boast to the state of Delaware.

Blue crabs tend to grow quickly and will reach maturity in as little as 12 months while most blue crabs fail to live longer than two years. The process of growing is unique for the blue crab and offers an interesting insight into the life cycle of these shellfish. To grow a blue crab must shed its current shell and create a new one. A crab may repeat this procedure up to 18 times before attaining it maximum length.

In the state of Delaware a crabber may take crabs legally at one of three different stages. Usually a crab should be a specific size prior to removing it from its habitat. This length is usually measured from one point of the top shell to the other point. Females or sooks are identified by a round apron on the under side. Once this point is reached in the life cycle of the female all growth comes to a halt. Since many times the females fail to reach the suggested five inches in length the minimum legal size has been dropped. Females which are bearing eggs are known as sponge crabs and may not legally be taken but rather should be immediately returned to the water.

Here in Delaware the recreational crabber may employ two crab pots. These pots should clearly be marked with an all white buoy containing the owner’s name and mailing address. Its important that if you place a crab pot in the water that you attend to it at least every 72 hours. During December 1 and February 28 the crabber must remove all crab pots from the water. If you are a recreational crabber you may legally use a trot line and an unlimited number of hand lines or traps. Keep in mind that the daily limit on blue crabs is one bushel of crabs per person.

Now let’s talk about clams. Here in Delaware you will need to have a valid fishing license to harvest clams within the state as well. It is considered unlawful to attempt to catch any hard shelled clam with any other device other than a hand held clam rake. The head of the rake should be no wider than 14 inches and have a straight handle not more than seven feet in length. Times of harvest are strictly enforced in Delaware and prohibit harvesting from one half hour after sunset through one-half hour prior to sunrise. You may not harvest more than 100 clams daily. The minimum hard clam size for harvesting in Delaware is 1 1/2 inches across the shell.

Wet Weather Clothing is a sensible choice for those who work outside or whose leisure activities mean that they spend a lot of time outdoors.
